Magic of the Everyday, Nature, Personal Life

Down with a Cold. Blergh.

Which means my head is stuffed so full I can barely breathe, my eyes itch, I can’t stay warm, and all I want to do is sleep. No writing today. No “anything fun” today! Fortunately, after a short walk and some convincing that it really was icky-damp-chilly outside, Dasher curled up on the sofa with me (instead of the usual letting me curl up next to him) and slept all afternoon. I’d intended to read–that was a short-lived intention. I slept, and it felt good.

I’ve just returned from a quick trip outside with the dog, and had a blissful experience: a flock of sandhill cranes flew overhead, in a lovely v-formation, making their heron-goose combo sound that I’ve missed so much since the majority departed early in the spring. Sandhill cranes from all over the US overwinter here, and I’d rather forgotten how much I enjoyed their presence all last winter. Even feeling under the weather, my delight was intense. Now I’m hoping I get better soon, so I can add another “to-do” to my list: head out for sandhill crane viewing!

Here’s hoping for more delights of the season, for you as well as for me.

  1. Every late Autumn/Winter we get ginormous flocks of Canada geese overnighting on one side of WIdderlake and not-quite-so-big flocks of swans on the other. A very civilised and amicable arrangement by the looks of things. 😀

  2. I’m glad you’re still well enough to appreciate flocks of cranes. ❤ And that Dasher consented to cuddling instead of playtime! Get well soon.
