Spring!

The spring equinox is upon us! Birds are singing, tree-buds are fat to bursting, and today–lo and behold!–the sun is actually shining.

I don’t know about you, but this year I am so ready for spring and warm weather. And it wasn’t even that cold of a winter. The last year, though, has been one of turmoil and change, which took its toll on my spirit even as I rested (read, ‘froze my butt off!’) through the dark chill of winter. Starting anew is what spring is all about. I’m ready for renewal.

At the store, I bought a hyacinth plant. Three fat stalks hold pinecone-sized buds of greenish-purple. When those burst open and scent the room, my spirits will soar. Now, I’m watching and waiting, dribbling water onto the soil daily, eager to see growth and green. My balcony (yes! I have one of those again!) already holds chairs; on the first warm day I plan on sitting outside in a sunbeam the entire day. Am I excited? Does it show?
